ETF Flows, August 12: Bitcoin’s Streak Thins to a Trickle

Quick mid-week read, because the tape changed character.
Bitcoin ETFs took in $4.89 million on August 12. Still positive, still extending August’s no-outflow-days streak, and also the smallest daily gain of the month by a wide margin, down from $243 million on August 6. Nearly all of Wednesday’s trickle came from BlackRock’s IBIT alone. One issuer is carrying the cohort.
Ethereum funds printed their first red day in a while: a $1.76 million net outflow led by Fidelity’s FETH, even as ETH’s price rose 0.78% on the day. Small number, notable direction.
And XRP ETFs recorded a perfect $0.00 across all five tracked issuers, the zero-flow pattern we keep documenting. Separate filings showed Grayscale’s XRP Trust sold over 103 million XRP, roughly $181 million worth, during the first half of the year, and the Senate delayed its CLARITY Act vote, removing a catalyst XRP holders were watching.
Bitcoin trades near $63,900 after briefly clearing $65,000 earlier in the week. Liquidations cooled to $162 million over 24 hours.
How to read it: allocators look paused rather than reversed. The August streak survives on technicality, but momentum this thin usually resolves off a catalyst, and the next one on the calendar is this week’s US CPI print. The full weekly picture, with the Farside and SoSoValue numbers compared, lands in Monday’s ETF Flows Weekly.
FAQ
What were Bitcoin ETF flows on August 12, 2026?
A net inflow of $4.89 million, the smallest daily gain of August, with nearly all of it from BlackRock’s IBIT. The month’s streak of zero net-outflow days remained technically intact.
What were Ethereum ETF flows on August 12, 2026?
A net outflow of $1.76 million, Ethereum funds’ first negative day in a stretch, led by Fidelity’s FETH, despite ETH’s price rising 0.78% the same day.
Did XRP ETFs see any flows on August 12?
No: all five tracked XRP ETFs recorded exactly $0.00 in net flows, continuing the zero-flow pattern that has defined the altcoin ETF category through August.
Is the Bitcoin ETF inflow streak over?
Not yet. August has recorded no net-outflow days for Bitcoin ETFs, but daily inflows shrank from $243 million on August 6 to under $5 million by August 12, so the streak is alive while the momentum behind it has thinned considerably.
Why did Ethereum ETFs see outflows while ETH’s price rose?
Flows and price can diverge day to day: ETF flows reflect institutional creations and redemptions, while price reflects the whole market. A small outflow on a green price day usually reads as one or two allocators trimming rather than a broad shift.
What is the next catalyst for crypto ETF flows?
The nearest scheduled one is this week’s US CPI report, which shapes rate expectations. Thin, pausing flows like August 12’s tend to resolve in whichever direction the next macro catalyst points.
Where can I see daily crypto ETF flow data?
Farside Investors and SoSoValue publish daily aggregated issuer flows, and Arkham tracks the ETF wallets on-chain. Figures differ slightly between providers because windows and methods differ; directions usually agree.
